2015 Petite Sirah, Fox Family Vineyard Image

2015 Petite Sirah, Fox Family Vineyard

The Petite Sirah grapes for this wine are grown on a steep, South-West facing, rocky hillside block of the Fox Family Vineyard in the hills of Los Olivos.  This tiny vineyard is planted to the “Rockpile” clone of Petite Sirah, with the original cuttings sourced directly from the Rockpile Vineyard in Sonoma, and farmed entirely by hand.  Every year, this is one of our most sought after wines.  And every year, it gets better and better.  The elegant palette boasts dark purple berries and chocolate while the silky smooth finish leaves you wanting more.  Another excellent example oin Blair's 2015 lineup!

Vineyards and Composition: 100% Fox Family Vineyard Petite Sirah; Los Olivos District, Santa Barbara County.

Barrel Aging and Cooperage: Twenty-six months in 100% French oak, two and three year old 228L (Ermitage; Meyrieux; Mercurey).

Production: 3 barrels, 75 cases

Winemaking:  Our Petite Sirah grapes are hand harvested, hand sorted, 100% destemmed without being crushed, leaving approximately 95% whole berries, into a small, open top fermentor. The must was cold-soaked for four days, with the addition of dry-ice, prior to inoculation with a native “Rockpile Vineyard” isolated yeast and punched down by hand one to three times per day until fermentation was complete.  The free run juice was drained off and the remaining must was basket pressed and settled before being racked to two and three year old French oak barrels.  This wine was aged in barrel for an additional twenty-six months prior to being racked from barrel and bottled in late January of 2018.
