Vineyards and Composition: A 100% Syrah blend comprised of our best barrels from Fox Family Vineyard Syrah - Los Olivos, Zotovich Vineyard Syrah - Sta. Rita Hills, Kimsey Vineyard Syrah - Ballard Canyon and Tierra Alta Vineyard - Ballard Canyon
Barrel Aging and Cooperage: Twenty-six months in 25% new and the remainder in three-year-old and older French oak barrels, (T. Mercurey, Francois Freres, Gillet)

Winemaking: This wine is a 100% Syrah blend from the finest barrels of Fox Family, Zotovich, Kimsey and Tierra Alta Vineyards. I carefully taste through every barrel in the cellar, grade and rank each barrel and then sit down to make what I feel is the best blend of Syrah that I can produce from the vintage. This process can sometimes take me minutes, but more often it takes me hours to get the perfect blend. “The Dare” is blended and named in honor of my daughter, Rylee Dare. The first vintage was produced on her birth year in 2004. The grapes were all hand harvested, sorted and predominately destemmed without crushing, leaving approximately 95% whole berries. After a 4-6 day cold soak, the grapes were punched down by hand one to three times per day until fermentation was complete. The must was gently basket pressed and settled before being racked to barrel for aging. This wine was blended and bottled in January of 2025 after being aged in exclusively French oak for twenty-six months. This wine is consistently a favorite of Wine Club members and the critics alike.
