2012 Basler Block Zinfandel
100% Organic, Estate grown grapes. The Basler Block is named after my grandparents, Vance and Carole Basler. They were both the children of immigrants who grew up in a small rural, farming town in Iowa. I feel it is from them, whom I acquired an innate ability to farm. This is the first release of the varietal Zinfandel from the Fox Family VIneyard. With the ideal growing conditions of the 2012 vintage the Zinfandel was able to fully ripen and demonstrate the unique attributes of this historic variety. The cuttings came from the St. Peters Church clone produced over one hundred years ago and isolated from the Rockpile Vineyard in Sonoma. It is grown head trained, on a 6 by 6 spacing, in a South facing bowl of the organically farmed Fox Family Vineyard. It was aged in a combination of French and American oak and bottled after 22 months of barrel aging.
